Our Shiny New Wedding Stationery Range hits the road!

Ok so the blogging once a week goal slipped quickly, but still I’ve just about made it to twice in 1 month, so that’s still a big New Years’ tick in my book! Anyway I have an excuse, we have been very busy bees at CL.AM HQ focusing on expanding and jazzing up our existing Wedding stationery range, ahead of a busy wedding fair season.

After a very positive reaction to our small wedding collection in our 1st year, culminating in a super exciting ‘Best Newcomer’ nomination by the lovely team at Perfect Wedding Magazine, we have decided to immerse ourselves in all things W-Day. We have not one, but three new design collections to share with you today… soooo drum roll please; introducing BOHEMIA, DECO and MARBLED!

MAIN-BOHEMIA SPRING-FOLDED1 SPRING-FOLDED2 SPRING-FOLDED3SPRING-SAVE-DATE

SPRING-RSVP

Bohemia was designed with the free-spirited festival, tee-pee, relaxed barn hoe-down-esque Wedding in mind. With a burst of pretty whimsical Spring florals, it is available in a luxury folding card with RSVP or as a flat double-sided invitation, along with co-ordinating Save the Date, RSVP and Evening Reception invitations. Braids and floral beards optional…..DECO-MAINDECO-INVITE

If you’re planning to be the bridal equivalent of Daisy Buchanan then Deco is for you, in a striking monochromatic art deco inspired print. This double-sided elegant design is the perfect way to announce your 1920’s inspired speakeasy of a day; cocktails and vintage champagne coupès obligatory! Co-ordinating Evening reception, RSVP and Save the Date invitations coming soon….

MARBLE-MAIN MARBLE-CLAS MARBLE-SAVE-DATE-CLAS MARBLE-RSVP-CLAS

We must admit we have fallen hard for the resurgence of marbling, its flowy, tonal, crafty organic wonder takes us right back to being a teen in the 90s, and a time of carefree youth. In fact this design was directly inspired by some vintage marbling of my own from the actual 1990’s-practically antique! Reworked here in dreamy breezy blues, our supercool double-sided Marbled design is a breath of fresh air, available in a choice of 3 fonts with Save the Date and RSVP co-rds.

We are kicking of the Wedding Fair Season, unveiling our new and improved wedding range, by returning to the unique, modern vintage aesthetic that is the wondrous Chosen Wedding Fair at Bristol Paintworks this Sunday. We will then be continuing our alternative wedding fair tour at the following fab events: A Most Curious Wedding Fair in London and The National Vintage Wedding Fair in Manchester.

🍉 🍉 🍉 WATERMELON FEVER! 🍉 🍉 🍉

It seems we are not the only ones to have gone totally fruit-bowl frantic about the wondrous watermelon!Image

My amazing birthday fruit-bowl crafted by Mr CL.AM

Image

My initials spelled out in watermelon; I’m happy!

Literally everytime I step out the door this Summer, I’m faced with a watermelon waterfall of amazing fruity inspired products; from fashion prints on clothing, to tote bags, to plates, to bunting, to today’s discovery JUICE!…so we really can pretend to be Beyoncè writhing around on a beach sipping watermelon.

Sippin’ watermelon

It comes as no surprise to me that fashion, homewares, and everything in-between have fallen head over heels in love with this tropical fruit. For me the sight, smell and taste of a watermelon gives me a rush of countless fond holiday memories, it gives me that feeling that Summer Is Actually Here. In short (and I’m sure I’m not alone in this) watermelon’s=happiness.

I have been pretty low key with my watermelon purchases I’d say, and have frugally limited myself to printed hot pants, tote bag and playsuit to accessorise my handy handbag staple La Sandia notebook.

I even had the pleasure of customising a close friend’s baby daughters cot last week by adorning it with the CL.AM signature LA SANDIA and LIMONE prints, see the work in progress below. Proof that you are never too young to start a lifetimes obsession with the wonderful watermelon!

An Arty Crafty Weekend

Image

Working the stall at Crafty fox Market in the Uncovered area

It was the second Crafty Fox Market, this time at The Dogstar in Brixton over the whole weekend, and there couldn’t have been a better, sunnier Brixton vibe. We were selling on the top floor in the ‘Uncovered’ area which pushes hand-picked emerging designer/makers, along with Mr Wingate’s screen printing workshop, where adults and children alike got thoroughly stuck in designing paper cutouts for bags, aprons and tea-towels.

A selection of CL.AM products for sale including our new A5 printed notebooks & Azteca envelopes

Image

Our ‘Wedding’ paper pom-poms provided a bright eye catching backdrop

We had a selection of printed stationery goodies on our stand, including our brand new A5 notebooks and a teaser of our Limone design, which proved pleasingly popular with the Brixton shoppers. We will be launching our hand-bound A5 notebooks and Limone envelope set on the website soon.

Image

Our new hand-decorated potted Cacti & Succulents addition to the stall

After popular demand at Crafty Fox Peckham, we decided to make the Cacti for sale alongside the Correspondence! Always eager for a new design challenge we decided to jazz up some old tins by decorating them ourselves to add to the Mexican/holiday vibe, and were delighted with the reception! As ardent lovers of the prickly plant we reckon CL.AM; Cacti & Correspondence has a good ring to it…we are already in plans to adorn a host of tin receptacles- so watch this space!

Screen print by Printmaker & Illustrator Alex Brady

As there were two of us on the stand we were lucky enough to take it in turns and explore all the other amazingly talented designer-makers. I loved fellow ‘Uncovered’ exhibitor and printmaker Alex Brady’s Mexican wrestling inspired screen prints, such gorgeous use of colour.

Printed photographic notecards by Zoë Burt

My husband, who is obsessed with all that is Indigo couldn’t resist purchasing these richly printed luxurious notecards by local printmaker Zoë Burt. Zoë uses the cyanotype process using light sensitive chemicals on paper which are then exposed to light with a person or object on the surface.

On Sunday we headed over to the Ambika building opposites London’s Baker Street, for an art fix on the final day of The Other Art Fair. We had not anticipated how jam packed it would be, but it wasn’t hard to say as a host of original art and workshops including paintings, photography, taxidermy, textiles and illustrations were stuffed inside the cool modern space.

Image

Image

I loved the blurry abstract candy-coloured paintings by Karen Thomas, and thought this trio of postcards would look great framed in a hallway.

Image

Our unwavering lust over all that is catholic kitsch was thoroughly sated by Julia R, Gallego’s bold provocative woodcut prints. Not to everyone’s taste, but we just Had to have them-just need to find some suitably ornate gold vintage frames now!

Image

It was also a great opportunity to catch up with an old friend who moved back to her native Korea a few years ago. Hajeong Chung, an amazing fellow textile designer and now university tutor was exhibiting her gorgeous printed textiles at the show. She was even kind (mad) enough to give me one of her thoroughly cool silk scarves, complete with opulent black tassel trim-a wonderful end to a culture rich weekend!

CALLING ALL ALTERNATIVE BRIDES-TO-BE!

Image

It’s Wedding spritz hour with our Flora and Limone wedding invitations

We’re all unique, with different tastes and strong opinions on what is tasteful/cool/appropriate, never more so than in the run up madness that is planning your own wedding. You will have ‘said’ strong opinions, thrust upon you from all sides, almost entirely undesired and not requested, but you battle through, because you’re a Bridal Warrior! Thankfully selecting your wedding stationery is usually a decision you are (blessfully) allowed to make yourselves….and breeeathe. But what if, when you come to search for your dreamy yet bold, hip, fashion-inspired wedding invitations, you are met with reserved pastel cuteness, which doesn’t reflect you as a couple at all? It’s a problem we found ourselves when planning our wedding last year, we wanted edgy, bright, bold wedding stationery with a strong design/fashion aesthetic. Frustrated by all the prettiness, we embarked on our own printed stationery company, including a diverse and eclectic wedding collection.

Image

Our Limone with Victoriana type, Flora, and double-sided Flora with Classic type wedding invitations

While we have designed the above Limone and Flora invitations with an element of occasion and delicateness, they will also announce your big day with a bit of punch and fun with our vibrant prints. Inspired by holidays in Sicily, and English country gardens, they are perfect for Spring and Summer celebrations alike.

Image

Our Tropicana wedding invitations come with a choice of 3 different type designs, and co-ordinating envelopes with sticker seals

We have created fun, quirky exciting wedding stationery, for fun, quirky exciting couples; this is not for lovers of the shy and retiring aesthetic! All of our wedding invitations come with our new co-ordinating sticker seals which can be personalised with your names, as well as a choice of 3 different typography designs-as we know how important it is that your wedding stationery feels ‘like you’.

Image

So many options…our Azteca design made to suit you

Ou range includes co-ordinating designs for save the dates, invitations, envelopes, thank-you cards and notebooks. The possibilities really are (almost) endless, whether you’re having a full on Mexican theme, or subtle geometric accents, giving you creative control even if you’ve never picked up a paintbrush in your life. So come along to CL.AM and have a play, it’ll be so fun, you won’t realise you’re wedding planning! We will be exclusively unveiling our wedding stationery range at The Quirky Boutique Wedding Fair, in Brighton on Sunday May 11th; a must for all you betrothed quirks 😉

CORRESPONDENCE AND CACTI; A WEEKEND OF LONDONS’ BEST MARKETS

Image

Our stall at The crafty Fox Market, and envelope pack close up. All wares available at http://www.cl-am.com

So this weekend kicked off market season with a bang, with our very first market being The Crafty Fox Market in Peckham’s Bussey Building. For anyone that came along-we thank you-and I think all were agreed it was a wondrous Saturday with some of the finest designer/makers in the biz, yummy food and cocktails, screen-printing workshops and more, all set against some great DJ sets in Peckham’s art hub. The turnout exceeded our expectations, and we loved meeting and selling directly to our new customers; it was really rewarding and useful for us to get first-hand feedback on our stationery wares, from Londons’ finest.

CL.AM notebbok packs, and the Crafty Fox Market in full swing

We met so many lovely people, customers and fellow crafters alike, and are already excited and gearing up for our 2nd market this month. Crafty Fox Market 2 lands in Brixton’s music/arts pub venue Dogstar, on Saturday 26th April 11-5pm, and we will be there in the upstairs ‘Uncovered’ area with fellow new London talent. Check the Market website for more details, and come along for what promises to be a super 2nd Weekend of local and unique shopping, eating and drinking!

One of the questions we noticed coming up a few times on the stall was ‘How much are the cacti’? I had taken them as display items to add the right feel to our stall, but it hadn’t occurred to me that people would assume they were for sale too! As they were the cacti I had used to decorate the tables at our wedding, and managed to keep Alive for almost a year, I wasn’t really up for selling them. However, one must never ignore public demand, and as fellow cacti enthusiasts we decided to make it a Market-marathon weekend (the only kind of marathon I’m interested in) and head to Columbia Road Flower Market on Sunday.

Image

Peonies and succulents on a sunny sunday at Columbia Road Flower Market

It was a gloriously sunny day in London, which meant most of London had also had the same idea-crowd control aside it was the perfect antidote to many weekends of market preparation in our workshop at home. There were succulents and flowering cacti aplenty, and we stocked up on some colourful specimens for our garden living wall, and Crafty Fox 2.

Image

Stalls jam-packed at Columbia Road Flower Market, and our colourful purchases

Always having one eye print-watching, we spotted a plethora of vibrant tropical Mens’ and Womenswear, which greatly pleased me and proved that men of all ages are not shying away from bold Hawaiian-esque print this season-in East London at any rate!

Image

Clockwise from top: A Dries tropical tapestry bomber, East end flower seller goes Hawaiian at Columbia Road, vintage Ralph Lauren Polo tropical print Mens’ shirt, my mono-tropical scuba tee

After looking round the ever-growing collection of kitsch and unique shops along Columbia Road and beyond, including my personal favourite Milagros Milagros. A one-stop Mexican handicraft haven that took me right back to Oaxaca, we ended the perfect Sunday with a sun-dappled stroll along Regent’s Canal to grab some 241 Mint Julep’s at John Salt in Angel-bliss!

If you’re a fan of correspondence and cacti alike, we look forward to seeing you in Brixton on the 26th 🙂

We will be joining a host of wonderful cherry-picked designer/makers with the focus all being on quality handmade gorgeous stuff. We will also be offering special promos and discounts on selected products on the day. It all begins this Saturday 12th April at Peckham art mecca The Bussey Building, from 12-5pm.

Inside the Dogstar in Brixton

Should you really be unable to make it this weekend (seriously what are you doing that tops this?) then you can catch us again and a wealth of amazing exhibitors at the second Crafty Fox Market in Brixton on Saturday 26th 11-5pm. We will be in the specially selected Undercover section upstairs at the Dogstar pub, along with a host of fresh new emerging talent. The two shows exhibitors were chosen and curated with the help of guest curators David Nicholls-the Design Editor of The Telegraph Magazine, and Amelia Gregory-founder of Amelia’s Magazine. So make sure you hotfoot to one of them, it’s guaranteed to be a great afternoon out and the perfect way to usher in the market season in the heart of South London.

Hope to see you there 🙂

SUNDAY SCRIBING

Image

It’s finally here the day of rest for some (not us it’s, market season), the final day of National Stationery Week, and the day we at CL.AM have been championing the most; ‘Write A Letter Day’. Not least because it’s an important part of our ethos, and a chance for us to introduce our new FLORA design (coming soon, see above!). Above all, for the chance it gives us to step back from our favoured choice of gadget, and think about who have we really been neglecting of late? If you’re anything like me, this year is flashing before your eyes, and all your well-intentioned plans to really get in touch with old friends, elderly relatives, family may have been pushed aside as life’s relentless torrent washes over you. It becomes so easy to put off, writing a short letter to your Grandparents or an old friend-but just picture how touched they would be if today,a day dedicated to letter-writing, you actually did it. Imagine how their face would light up, at the sight of a beautifully handwritten envelope appearing through their letterbox, from a person they thought was far too busy to bother with them.

I know myself, that I get such a rush of excitement at the sight of a handwritten letter addressed to me on my doormat, partly because it is unfortunately so rare these days. It immediately invokes nostalgia for exciting events like birthdays, invitations, engagements or the teenage letter-writing essays I used to embark on with school friends; a time we had so much vital information to tell one another, it spilled onto several pages!

Image

So for one day, I urge, implore you to join in, and take some time out of your Sunday to reconnect with someone important to you. You may be surprised at the pleasure it brings you, and rest assured it will leave them smiling for the rest of the week.

Correspondence is cool x

FRIDAY FEELING!

Image

You’ve finally made it, the Weekend is well and truly in sight, the Easter Holidays are inching closer-what a feeling! Even better there’s still a whole Weekend left of National Stationery Week activities left for you to get stuck into, if you haven’t had a chance to during the week. We are still offering a whopping 20% off all our unique printed handmade stationery to celebrate NSW14 with code NSW, until Sunday at CL.AM. A perfect opportunity to treat yourself or a friend to some beautiful stationery to usher in the new season.

Today and Saturday focus on some serious organisation with today bring ‘Pencil Case Day’ (oh to be at school comparing new pencil tins again!) and Saturday is ‘Get Organised Day’. We are definitely going to be taking that approach in the CL.AM production HQ, as we get underway preparing lots of lovely wares, for the first of the Crafty Fox Markets, in Peckham on Saturday 12th April.

Image

Image

This will be our first market, so we would love to see you if you can make it to The Bussey Building from 12-5pm! We will tell you more about the markets and fairs we are doing v soon, its certainly going to be a busy couple of months, and we can’t wait to get some first-hand reactions to our fashion inspired range.

We will be back here over the Weekend, for the final day of National Stationery Week, and the one we have really been looking forward to: ‘Write a Letter Day’. Enjoy your Friday, getting organised or at least having organised fun x

ORGANISATION…NOT REALLY MY STYLE

So it’s Day 4 of National Stationery Week, and the only day I’ve been dreading a little; ‘Tidy Desk Day’. Not being known as one of the most organised of people..I’m a creative- we thrive on chaos right!-the thought of tidying anything brings back teenage memories of being ordered to tidy my room, and I visibly recoil. However I do thrive on lists, lists, lists. While a lot of these go untended to for weeks and are therefore discarded, there is nothing quite as satisfying as crossing off (almost) everything on your daily ‘to do’ post-it, screwing it up and putting it in my mini recycling bin. I have day to day lists, weekly lists, and life lists-where the ‘to dos’ may take several years to get round to. I do find it cathartic to empty the mass of thoughts whirling round my head into paper though, it’s a visual map of my problems to solve.

In the spirit of the day I will share some of my organised chaos, if anything it will make you feel better about how neat and organised your ‘office’ is.

Image

This is about as tidy as my workstation gets; a masterclass in organised chaos!
