My initials spelled out in watermelon; I’m happy!

Literally everytime I step out the door this Summer, I’m faced with a watermelon waterfall of amazing fruity inspired products; from fashion prints on clothing, to tote bags, to plates, to bunting, to today’s discovery JUICE!…so we really can pretend to be Beyoncè writhing around on a beach sipping watermelon.

It comes as no surprise to me that fashion, homewares, and everything in-between have fallen head over heels in love with this tropical fruit. For me the sight, smell and taste of a watermelon gives me a rush of countless fond holiday memories, it gives me that feeling that Summer Is Actually Here. In short (and I’m sure I’m not alone in this) watermelon’s=happiness.

I have been pretty low key with my watermelon purchases I’d say, and have frugally limited myself to printed hot pants, tote bag and playsuit to accessorise my handy handbag staple La Sandia notebook.

I even had the pleasure of customising a close friend’s baby daughters cot last week by adorning it with the CL.AM signature LA SANDIA and LIMONE prints, see the work in progress below. Proof that you are never too young to start a lifetimes obsession with the wonderful watermelon!

PEN & INK DAY

It’s already day 3 of National Stationery Week which means it’s ‘Pen & Ink Day’. One of the days I was most looking forward to, and a chance for us to introduce our new LIMONE design, perfect for a lovely sunny Wednesday; arriving at CL.AM soon!

There’s no better way to show someone whom you may have been slightly neglecting, that you do honestly care, and you are thinking of them, than a beautiful handwritten note, on equally beautiful stationery. It goes so much further than a dismissive text or email, it shows that you’ve taken time out of your busy life to not only select luxurious, note-worthy stationery, but also to select your words carefully. A luxurious handwritten letter can’t contain the usual LOLS, OMG’S or old school PTB’s that often pepper our everyday digital correspondence, and it’s all the better for it. I think we could all do with taking a step back from online communication now and then, and get back to basics with a  bit of old-fashioned pen and ink. You may find it becomes addictive and offers a little respite in an otherwise media saturated day.

We are feeling fruity this week, so this Tuesday’s Ten Minute Typo is inspired by our LA SANDIA design range, and our general obsession with watermelons! That brief glimmer of sunshine we experienced has got us dreaming of supping a watermelon margarita, while wearing watermelon hot-pants and eating, yup a thirst quenching slice of our fave fruit.

ALOHA TIKI-TASTIC MENSWEAR!

Fashion is having a serious love-in with all things tropical right now; and this time there’s nothing feminine about it. High end Catwalk Designers Cavalli, Phillip Lim, Givenchy and Paul Smith; through to American brand Engineered GarmentsScotch&Soda and Topman have all gone Tiki-tastic in their Menswear collections! From matching luxury leisurewear at Phillip Lim, tropical floral shirts in the Just Cavalli S/S range, plimsolls and shirts by Paul Smith to a host of gorgeous retro hawaiian prints throughout the AMI Mens Clothing range, this is a trend that demands attention. Even Just Hype trainers have had the hibiscus touch, it is a trend that is surprisingly wearable for Men as well as Women; and a sure fire way for both sexes to pretend they’re supping a Pina Colada under azure skies. That’s a trend we could all do with buying into this Winter.

LA SANDIA RANGE AND INSPIRATION

Personally I have always been a little bit obsessed with fruit and vegetables, and find them endlessly inspiring and joyful when it comes to eating, wearing or drawing them! Nothing conjures up the feeling of a glorious hot summer holiday more for me, than the smell and sight of a watermelon. This was cemented on our honeymoon in Mexico where vast stalls of enormous ‘La Sandia’ were being sold in markets, and smocks, dresses and textiles were beautifully embroidered with miniature bananas, citrus fruits and of course watermelon.

I was also rather delighted to discover this amazing velvet luxury watermelon decoration in the Christmas department of Fortnum and Mason’s this year! Fruit is a recurring Spring/Summer theme on the Catwalk as well, and this scarf by Anna Coroneo does not disappoint (http://www.net-a-porter.com/intl/product/414518). I defy anyone not to be delighted when receiving La Sandia through the post, and am planning to do a whole food and drink stationery range next. Watch this space!
